NFL: Super Bowl: Did Rihanna renounce due to Kaepernick?

Pop star Rihanna has apparently rejected a request for a performance during the halftime break of the Super Bowl. According to a report in the celebrity magazine US-Weekly, a source close to the singer said Rihanna “disagrees with the attitude of the NFL”. The NFL has not yet commented on the reports.

Rihanna supported the protesting footballers around quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who had fallen on his knees in the 2016/17 season as initiator of the protests against the suppression of black fellow citizens and police violence before the NFL games while playing the national anthem.

Since his departure from the San Francisco 49ers in March 2017, Kaepernick has been waiting for a new NFL offer.

Most recently, the sporting goods manufacturer Nike used Kaepernick’s face to advertise an advertising campaign with the well-known slogan “Just Do it”, which gave the Group a wide reach.

At the 53rd edition of the Super Bowl on 3 February 2019 in Atlanta, Maroon 5 will appear in the halftime break. US superstar Justin Timberlake appeared at last year’s championship final in Minneapolis, where the Philadelphia Eagles prevailed against the New England Patriots.
