NBA: Durant on Free Agency 2019: “Think Money”

Kevin Durant could opt out of his current contract with the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2019 thanks to a player option. Rumours are already circulating about a possible change of 30-year-old. However, he does not yet ask himself where he will play next season.

Instead, Durant is thinking about quite different things: “I’m thinking about all the money I’m going to get,” Durant said when asked about his upcoming free agency decision to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic.

“I’ve never gotten a big deal before,” KD continued. “I’ve seen a lot of people in the league making a lot of money – and I’m happy for them. But I know I’m worth it.”

Durant is earning $30 million in the current season, but according to Thompson, it is only ranked 11th in a league-wide comparison – although the Small Forward is regarded as one of the Association’s best players.

It is considered likely that Durant will withdraw from his contract in the summer of 2019 and become a Free Agent. At Golden State he could theoretically sign a five-year contract for 221 million dollars.

However, whether he really stays in the Bay Area or maybe joins another team – for example the Knicks, which have been the subject of many rumours over the last few days – is still in the stars.

“I don’t think about that at all,” Durant explained. “I’m completely focused on my team.” Durant’s third season in the Warriors jersey has so far averaged 29.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists with a field casting rate of 55.6 percent.
