NBA: Media: League allows Boston Hayward replacement

In the wake of the serious injury to Gordon Hayward, the Boston Celtics could take action again and sign up a new player. According to media reports, they were allowed a special exception by the League.

As The Vertical writes, the League has allowed the Boston Celtics to use a so-called Disabled Player Exception. Such a rule becomes effective when a player from the squad suffers such a serious injury that he or she misses the rest of the season.

This is probably the case with Hayward after his tibia fracture plus a dislocated ankle, which is why the Player Exception takes effect.

This would be $8.4 million and would allow Boston to contract a player for this annual salary (only one season) and would allow them to do so. Alternatively, they could also accept a player who is in his last year of contract and does not exceed the stated amount. On the 10th. March, the exception would expire.
