The Houston Astros have won their last home game of the World Series 12:11 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and thus secured their first match point. The guests were three times clearly ahead, but the hosts came back every time. Ultimately, they could rely on their power and the heart of their lineup.
Dallas Kershaw challenged Clayton Kershaw, but both ended up disappointing. Thus, a shootout developed at an early stage, in which the Dodgers fired their first volley. She took an early lead with four runs and the Astros equalized thanks to a homerun by Yuli Gurriel.
The Dodgers fought back at once with a 3-Run-Shot by Cody Bellinger, but the Astros also had an answer with a 3-Run-Homerun by Jose Altuve. Belliger’s RBI triple gave L. A. another lead, but George Springer also made up for it with a long ball. A 2-run homerun by Carlos Correa followed and a homer from Brian McCann in the eighth inning put the lead to 12:9. But it wasn’t over yet, because Yasiel Puig shortened in the ninth inning by 2-Run-Homerun and Chris Taylor equalled with an RBI-single at 12:12. That’s what Extra Innings was all about.
Alex Bregman finally made the decision with a walk-off RBI single, after which the substitute Derek Fisher crossed the home plate to win.
The Astros travel back to Los Angeles with a 3-2-guided tour in their luggage. We continue on to the night of Wednesday (live from 1am on DAZN) with match 6. The Astros will send Justin Verlander to the Mound, while the Dodgers are likely to rely on Rich Hill.
World Series, Game 5: Houston Astros – Los Angeles Dodgers 13:12 (10 Inn.) – Series 3-2 BOXSCORE
Because pitching didn’t work on both sides, it was almost all about the offensive lines. And finally the Astros demonstrated more firepower and finally won this remarkable shootout.
They were trailing 0:4,4:7 once and 4:7, but they didn’t let themselves be put off and came back every time. Even after Cody Bellinger’s late RBI triple in the seventh inning, they stayed cool and eventually shot the match in the same frame. Even the late 12:12 equalization didn’t discourage Houston.
The two superstars of the Astros couldn’t be held. Both together were 6-10 with seven RBI. In addition, both of them beat important home runs and together they also scored five runs. The heart of this lineup was fired from all the pipes.
It was to be a high-class duel between two outstanding left-handers, but neither Dallas Keuchel nor Clayton Kershaw knew how to convince. Keuchel got into trouble quickly and had to finish after 3 2/3 innings and 4 runs (3 ER). Kershaw himself didn’t make it much better and gave the lead twice. In the end, after 4 2/3 innings and six earned runs, he finished.
