The Los Angeles Dodgers are still alive. In Match 6 of the World Series, they beat the Houston Astros 3-1 at home’s Dodger Stadium and equalized the 3-3 series. While the Dodgers were allowed to rely on their entire pitching staff, they attacked Justin Verlander. This is a novelty in Chavez Ravine.
The game began with a dominant pitcher and an early shock for the hosts at Halloween: George Springer beat a solo homerun for the guests against Rich Hill in the third inning and gave the Astros the lead. Afterwards Verlander cruised from out to out and looked almost unbeatable.
In the fifth inning, the Astros even had the chance to raise, but they didn’t care for runners on 2 and 3 and no out. That gave the Dodgers new hope, which was to be confirmed in the sixth inning. Chris Taylor scored the equaliser with an RBI double and Corey Seager took Los Angeles to the Warning Track with a Sacrifice Fly. Joc Pederson finally did a home run in the seventh inning.
The success of the Dodgers has put the World Series into the all-decisive game 7, which will rise in the night of Thursday’s match at the Dodger Stadium at 1:00 a. m. live on DAZN. This makes for a premiere, as Dodger Stadium has never been the venue of SPiel 7 in the World Series before!
World Series, game 6: Los Angeles Dodgers – Houston Astros 3:1 – series: 3-3 BOXSCORE
With runners on 1 and 2 and no out, the big question was whether Chris Taylor would put a colorful trick to move both runners into scoring position. Instead, the all-rounder fought a high-class duel with Verlander and managed an opposition field RBI double 1-1 in the game. That was the turnaround for Los Angeles and the definition of a “decisive duel”.
The Astros had two runners in scoring position with no fifth inning out against Rich Hill. The lefty then provided two more outs (4 2/3 IP, ER) and was finally replaced after an intentional walk. Right-hander Brandon Morrow then secured the final out of the inning against Alex Bregman. At that point in time, the Astros were already leading 1:0 and could have made a preliminary decision. Instead, they gave the Dodgers new hope.
The Super-Closer came to the start of the eighth inning and was supposed to work two innings for his save. This has often gone wrong this year in the postseason. But this time Kenley Jansen (2 IP, 3 SO) brought it on stage and led the Dodgers into their seventh game. Jansen stands for the whole Dodgers-Pitching-Sraff, because all together they have played six hits.
In Game 5, Altuve was still one of the heroes, but this time the AL-MVP candidate was disappointed and was 0-4. His seventh-tier groundout was particularly painful, with two outs and two men on base. This was the last chance to run for the Astros in the game.
