NFL: Garcon: Season’s end due to neck injury

The San Francisco 49ers (0-8) have to accept another setback in a hitherto unhappy season. Pierre Garcon is now also the team’s best wide receiver. The Wideout has sustained a neck injury and was added to the Injured Reserves by the Niners.

According to the team, Garcon has broken part of the fifth cervical vertebra. A small piece of bone in the neck area below the skull. The estimated regeneration time is eight weeks. The 49ers still have as many games on the program.

“With every step we take forward, we seem to have to go backwards again,”said 49er’s CEO John Lynch with regard to the injury to KNBR Radio in San Francisco,”This is a hard blow for us. We have to find a solution.”

Garcon was injured in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles after being pushed out on the sidelines as a result of a catches. In an interview after the match, Garcon stated that he did not consider the injury to be serious.

However, tests on Wednesday showed that this was not the case. The team then placed Garcon with the Injured Reserves.

Garcon was one of the first Free Agency commitments undertaken by the new 49ers regime of Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 31-year-old signed a five-year contract for 47 million dollars in March. In the eight games of the season so far, the receiver has caught 40 catches for 500 yards.

Besides him, Safety Jimmie Ward, Tackle Garry Gilliam, Left Tackle Joe Staley and Defensive End Solomon Thomas were injured in Philadelphia.
