NBA: Schröder weak – Ex-Bamberger kills the Hawks

In the Hawks’ duel against the Pelicans, ex-Bamberg’s Darius Miller becomes a hero and shoots Atlanta almost on his own in a wild final phase. Dennis Schröder doesn’t get a good night. Meanwhile, the Warriors are doing well without the injured Steph Curry, the Sixers win against the Clippers and also the Wizards, Bucks and Lakers win victories.

For whatever reason, the Kings John Wall seem to be particularly convenient. The Point Guard of the Wizards is not first and foremost known as a sniper, but against the franchise from California he seems to ignore it regularly. Wall led his team with 21 points (8/9 FG) and 9 assists to a safe victory against Sacramento.

The 27-year-old stayed at a perfect distance: 4 out of 4 attempts by Downtown found his way through the Reuse. In two games against the Kings, Wall scores 90 per cent (9/10) in three places – against all other opponents he has only scored 15.6 per cent (5/32),”I think I’ll take the exact same throws. Against the Kings I just hit them for some reason,”Wall himself was a bit perplexed.

In addition to the superstar’s marksmanship, the superiority on the board (50:34 rebounds) and the good ball-movement (30 assists at 44 field goals) were decisive for Washington. Marcin Gortat (18 points, 7 rebounds) and Mike Scott (15 points, 5/8 FG) also performed well alongside Wall.

After the hosts were able to score 22 points in the third section, the game was decided. George Hill was top scorer on the Kings side with 16 points. Zach Randolph scored 12 points and 9 rebounds, but had problems with the throw (4/12 FG).

There is not much left of the strong start to the Memphis grizzlies season. In Milwaukee Marc Gasol and Co. will accept the fifth defeat in the last seven games. Especially the Defense, which is actually the showpiece of the guests, was not up to par in the meantime.

In the first section alone, the Bucks sank 65 percent of their field throwing attempts, including 6 out of 6 threesomes. After all, Memphis turned the tables in the second quarter:”Now it was the guests who almost everything that was fired towards the basket that hit. Nevertheless, the Bucks continued to have slight advantages on their side, for example due to the good three-way ratio (12/22.54.5 percent) or fewer ball losses (9:14).

But before Milwaukee could escape, Tyreke Evans turned up the heat in time. With 9 points in a row in the third quarter and 14 points in the final section alone, the shooting guard (all in all 27) put the guests back into striking distance. Dillon Brooks (19 points, 6/9 FG) even took Memphis into the lead for a short time. Marc Gasol also helped with a good performance (16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists).

But that was not enough against Giannis Antetokounmpo in the end. The Greek played 27 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists as well as 2 steals and blocks each and led the Bucks to victory. It was he who brought Milwaukee back on the winning track. The Bucks finally kept their lead during the last five minutes of the game. Giannis received support from Khris Middleton and John Henson (both 17 points each). Eric Bledsoe scored 17 points and 7 rebounds in spite of knee problems.

Bitter bankruptcy for the Hawks! The surprise against the Twin Towers from New Orleans was within reach, but it wasn’t enough:”There were a few positive things to see,”said Head Coach Mike Budenholzer, who was not entirely dissatisfied at the end:”For example, how the boys held out against a good team. I’m proud of the effort we’ve shown.”

The Hawks took advantage of the hosts’ numerous mistakes (19 turnovers) over almost the entire game away quite skillfully to their own advantage. Led by Kent Bazemore (22 points, 7 assists) and the strong Rookie Tyler Cavanaugh (16 points, 6 rebounds, 4/4 threesomes), Atlanta even managed to gain a 14-point advantage in the meantime.

But in the final section, however, Atlanta had nothing left to oppose a man: Darius Miller. The ex-Bamberger scored 14 of his 21 points in the last two and a half minutes alone, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter (Career-High). In the decisive minutes, the Hawks finally made some serious mistakes.

Bazemore missed an important free-throw at the last minute. Dennis Schröder lost a ball at the chance to take the lead shortly before the end. The German didn’t have a very happy evening anyway. Only 11 points, 5 assists and 4 turnovers at 5/18 from the field were recorded in the boxing score at the end.

On the other hand, Anthony Davis was not in a very good mood either. The Big Man only scored 13 points (10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks) and achieved 5 turnovers. One of them came 3.2 seconds before the end, which gave the Hawks a last desperate threesome.

But Bazemore’s attempt was unsuccessful and so a wild final phase in favour of the Pelicans ended. They were happy about the fifth victory from the last six games and at the same time they enjoyed good performances of E’ Twaun Moore (24 points) and DeMarcus Cousins (22 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, but also 7 turnovers). Rajon Rondo also made his debut for the Pels after a long injury break. In 5 minutes the Point Guard came to 2 counters and 2 assists.
