NFL: Season out for Kelley and Compton

The Washington Redskins have put two starters on Injured Reserve. For Running Back Rob Kelley and Linebacker Will Compton the season is over.

Kelley suffered both a syndesmosis tear and an internal ligament compression in his left knee during his home defeat against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11. For him, this is the end of a season that has been plagued by injuries. He had already missed two more games completely and had aborted others with various injuries prematurely. He ended up with 62 carries for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

The Redskins occupy the cadre position with Byron Marshall, whom they hired from the Philadelphia Eagles Practice Squad. Samaje Perine will probably be the starter on the field, while Chris Thompson will continue to give the third down back.

Compton in turn sustained a Lisfranc injury – a midfoot joint – in the same game. Compton played in place of Mason Foster as Inside Linebacker, after he had sustained a shoulder injury in October and also landed on IR. Martrell Spaight will now assume this role.

Meanwhile, Zach Vigil will take over Compton’s open cadre position, ESPN reports. Vigil was released by the Redskins this summer.
