The sporting downswing of the THW Kiel continues on an international level. On the second matchday of the Champions League, the German record champion lost 21:32 (11:18) to the Polish representative KS Kielce. The attack didn’t come together, the defence never got a grip on the strong Polish attackers.
The day before, SG Flensburg-Handewitt had done better. At the Hungarian top club MKB Veszprem with long-time Flensburg coach Ljubomir Vranjes, the North Germans were on equal terms with the Hungarian top club MKB Veszprem and had to admit a narrow 27:28 (14:15) in the end.Flensburg had won against Danish champions Aalborg and Kiel lost to Paris St. after losing to Paris.Germain also played the second game.
Without their spinal disc trainer Alfred Gislason, but with the injured playmaker Domagoj Duvnjak and Christian Sprenger as their supervisor on the bench, the THW in Kielce could hardly manage anything.Far too little came out of the back room, where middleman Miha Zarabec could hardly replace the painfully missing Duvnjak.Only the game in width worked to a certain extent, so that Rune Dahmke scored his six goals mainly on the left. This made him the best thrower in Kiel.Karol Bielecki met seven times for Kielce.
Flensburg missed the start in Veszprem and only scored the first goal after seven minutes by left-hander Magnus Röd.After a 4-1 draw, coach Maik Machulla’s team returned to the game thanks to a strong goalkeeper’s performance from Mattias Andersson. The SG’s cover was threatened by Maté Lékai and Laszlo Nagy from the hosts’ strong back room.
In the second half of the season, a world-class performance by Andersson made it possible to win Flensburg for a long time, and the SG now led with four goals. In the end it was Lékai and Nagy again, however, who turned the tables for Veszprem. Her two goals for 27:26 and 28:26 in the 58th minute.Flensburg was only able to beat Rasmus Lauge’s 28:27 in the 5th minute 54 seconds before the end.
The best Flensburg thrower was the Swede Hampus Wanne with five goals.Lékai (9) and Nagy (8) did almost all the offensive work for Veszprem on their own.
Next Sunday (1.October) Flensburg will receive Paris St. Flensburg on the third matchday of the Champions League.Germain with national team captain Uwe Gensheimer. The North Germans will have to play Ludwigshafen owls in the Bundesliga on Wednesday. The THW Kiel is aiming for their first victory in the third game against Aalborg in the royal class on Wednesday.
