MLB: Winter Meetings: Ozuna goes to St. Peter’s.

Do the New York Yankees also get Third Baseman Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles? The winter meetings of the MLB are in full swing. The Miami Marlins have handed over the next top performer, Marcell Ozuna, and the Angels have taken Ian Kinsler by trade. What else is passert?

The so-called Winter Meetings are a traditional, four-day conference in which representatives of all 30 MLB teams meet in December to discuss, above all, about trades and trading. In 2017, they met in Orlando, Florida. An overview of the most important decisions:

Manny Machado to the Yankees?

The Baltimore Orioles could part with top performer Manny Machado. The 25-year-old is one of the next generation of absolute superstars: in 2017 he beat 33 homeruns, defensively he is the ultimate in his position. This also means that when his contract expires in 2018, he could sign a contract worth 200 million dollars or more if he were looking for a long-term contract. Questionable if he could – or wanted to – sign that with the Orioles.

That is why the Orioles have announced that they are holding talks with potential trade partners. We’ve been negotiating trades with the Yankees before,”said Dan Duquette from the front office about the AL East rival. If Machado should really go to the Bronx Bombers, they would definitely become the absolute favourites in 2018.

Marcell Ozuna goes to the St. Peter’s. Louis Cardinals

After the Cardinals failed with their efforts, Giancarlo Stanton went to St. Vincent’s. In exchange for outfielder Magneuris Sierra and three pitcher talents, Slugger Marcell Ozuna was hired. The Left Fielder, with 37 home runs and a total of 124 RBIs, was also an absolute top performer among the Marlins and gives the Cards a dreaded man in the middle of the lineup on the hunt for the playoffs.

In order to make room in the outfield, the Cardinals handed Stephen Piscotty over to Oakland A’s for two minor league talents. And the Marlins fired the injured starting pitcher Edinson Volquez, to whom they still owe $13 million for 2018.

Los Angeles Angels trades for Ian Kinsler

After the celebrated engagement of Japan’s supertalent Shohei Ohtani, the Angels continue to upgrade: Second Baseman Ian Kinsler comes from the Detroit Tigers, but two talents go to the Motor City. The 35-year-old veteran had a comparatively weak year in 2017, but is still a good all-rounder who is good for 20 or more home runs.

Meanwhile, there’s not much good news about Ohtani. It is known that the 23-year-old had elbow problems and therefore underwent self-blood treatment in October. But the Angels don’t want to know anything about alarm bells or even a possible tommy-john operation that Ohtani would disable for a whole year:”That’s behind him,” said Manager Mike Scioscia. He’ll be in full Spring Training.”
