Wide Receiver Equanimeous St. Brown has signed up for the NFL draft in 2018 and could become the first German-origin Skilled Positioner of the NFL. The 21-year-old’s career is no surprise. His father is an award-winning bodybuilder and brought up Equanimeous and his brothers with the goal of becoming a superstar in the NFL.
“John Brown? What’s that supposed to be? There are too many of them,”says the father of Equanimeous and his brothers Osiris and Amon-Ra. John Brown values uniqueness. They used pig iron as dumbbells. From baseball to basketball, the three offspring were allowed to try out everything in a sporty manner and still got stuck with football, all three as wide receivers. The extravagance was provided by his father, who brought his own fitness products onto the market in addition to bodybuilding and worked in the fashion industry.
In the 1990s, Brown was then active in an anti-racism movement, wishing to recollect his African roots and “don’t give his sons any slave names”, as he explained to Sports Illustrated. Osiris and Amon-Ra are the names of Egyptian gods, Equanimeous comes from the English adjective “equanimous” and means “calm”. The friends of Equanimeous call it only EQ, but some scouts call it the “new Odell Beckham Jr”.
Miriam St. Brown is German. John Brown met the Leverkusener woman at a fitness fair in Essen. The two married and moved to the USA. Equanimeous never lost touch with his mother’s home country. The St. Brown brothers grew up in several languages, they speak English with their father and German with their mother. He says to BamS:”Germany is my second home. Equanimeous is a stage. However, for his height of 1.96 meters his weight of about 93 kilograms is rather low. The St. Browns rely on athletics to overcome the sometimes 40 to 50 kilogram heavier defenders in football. Brown’s are for me a normal family with three decent sons. Only when you look at how good the three of them are not only in the athletic but also in the academic field will you say,”ok, that’s not normal.”
My mother Miriam sent the children to a French school in Paris, focussed on multilingualism and had them learn three languages:”From my mother I have the academic, discipline and openness to other languages and cultures,”says Equanimeous. A family visit to Germany every year was a must.
I’ve decided to sign up for the NFL Draft 2018,”St. St. Stephen wrote. Brown on Twitter.”When my career as a Notre Dame player comes to an end, I’ll come back one day to get my degree.”
Doubts that it should not work out with the big breakthrough, he did not. His goals aren’t exactly those of bad parents:”Yeah, I think I can make it to the Hall of Fame.”
