Olympia 2018: Talks about joint Korean women’s ice hockey team

Hosts South Korea and North Korea apparently want to talk about a joint team for the women’s ice hockey competition before the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. This reports the industry service insidethegames. This is therefore one of several issues to be discussed at the summit meeting of representatives of both states on 20 May. He was appointed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne on 1 January.

At the Winter Games (9. till 25. February) allegedly three to eight players from North Korea are to be included in the South Korean line-up. So far only the pair runners Ryom Tae Ok and Kim Ju Sik have qualified from the north.

On Wednesday, the IOC announced the date for the summit meeting on details of North Korea’s participation in the Games. Presidents of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), high-level government officials and IOC members, as well as a delegation from the Pyeongchang Organising Committee, will attend the conference from both Korean countries.

Bilateral contacts between the Korean states have been in place since last week to prepare for North Korea’s participation. The North had previously signalled its general willingness to send active participants to the competitions in Pyeongchang.

The choice of anthem and flag is also discussed in Lausanne. South Korea had suggested that the hostile states perform together at the opening and closing ceremonies. This was the case on the Olympic stage most recently at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin.
