MLB: Giants: Matt Cain ends his career

Matt Cain has announced that he will end his career after this season.On Saturday, the pitcher of the San Francisco Giants will have his last start ever.Cain first announced his decision in a team meeting before going public.

A day before his 33rd birthday.On his 50th birthday, the right-hander, who was plagued by numerous injuries, will make his last start – at home against the San Diego Padres.

“This organization meant so much to me.She meant so much to my family.I’m just thankful she was a part of my life.I enjoyed it so much,”Cain told reporters.

Cain continued:”I think we’ve gone through the full range of everything.That’s satisfying.I know that at the end of the day I can hang up my cap and say that I have given everything.I’ve experienced everything and enjoyed all of it.”

Cain was voted three times into the All-Star team, won the World Series three times and pitched the only perfect game in San Francisco Giants history in 2012.His postseason performance in 2010 will remain unforgettable: he did not give up an earned run of 21 1/3 innings and played a decisive role in the team’s first championship in San Francisco.

“His achievements in the field and in society are an example of what a true big leaguer should be and we will definitely miss him,”said Larry Bear, President and CEO of Giants, in a statement:”On behalf of the Giants, I congratulate Matt on an outstanding career and wish him and his family all the best.He will remain a giant forever.”
