The Super Bowl is approaching – and in Foxboro all eyes are on Rob Gronkowski. Due to his concussion, the tight end is still unable to train, and Tom Brady also works only to a limited extent. Meanwhile, Ex-Pats-Back LeGarrette Blount goes into attack mode. Super Bowl LII will be available on 4. February from 11.45 pm live on DAZN – optionally with German and original US commentary!
The patriots are still worried about their most important player after Tom Brady: Tight End Rob Gronkowski, who suffered a concussion in the AFC Championship game against Jacksonville, still can’t train.
The team had confirmed the injury on Wednesday on the Injury Report and Gronk was missing on Thursday in practice. The NFL requires five steps for a player to replay after a concussion: First, rest is prescribed, followed by light stretching sessions.
The training is then gradually intensified, observing whether the symptoms worsen again. Only if this does not happen and the player can participate in normal training sessions – initially without contact – will he get the green light for his return. On average, the symptoms recede after seven to ten days, but if Gronk’s symptoms get worse during the process, he could miss the Super Bowl.
While all eyes were on Gronkowski in front of the Super Bowl, before the Championship game against the Jaguars the focus was on Brady. New England’s quarterback suffered a hand injury during practice and had to be sewn with several stitches.
In the game, the injury obviously had no major impact, Brady played without a glove or something like that – only a tape on his hand revealed the injury. Now the Pats obviously don’t want to take any risks: Brady only had limited training on Thursday.
Meanwhile, defensive Linemen Deatrich Wise (brain shake) and Malcom Brown (foot) were unable to train, while Safety Devin McCourty (shoulder) and Running Back Mike Gillislee (knee) also worked only to a limited extent.
Two Super Bowls won LeGarrette Blount with the Patriots in the past four years – now the 31-year-old wants to defeat his ex-team with the Eagles,”I’m going into the enemy mode,” Blount emphasized on Thursday. Nothing of the sort. We know what we want to do and they know what they want to do. We have the same goal. I’m not bitter or anything, the situation is just like that.”
The Running Back at NJ. com continued:”I am now playing for the Eagles, not for the Patriots. I don’t watch the patriots’ games, I don’t care about them. I concentrate on the things we need to do to have the best possible chance of winning. Last year I had a great time there, but that’s in the past.”
Meanwhile, everyone knows the history of the Eagles this season: Philly was the clear favourite in the NFC for most experts – before Carson Wentz tore his cruciate ligament. Nick Foles took over and despite some shaky appearances, a brilliantly composed Eagles team won the number 1 seed. In the playoffs Foles had his best performances since the second half against Atlanta.
Since his performance in the NFC Championship game at the latest, Foles can be sure of the support of everyone in Philly – Dave Peacock, the head of a billboard company in Philadelphia, has believed in the backup since the Wentz violation. Shortly before Christmas, for example, he lit up a big advertisement that shows Foles wearing a Santa Claus hat, supplemented by the slogan:”Philly believes in you St. Stephen’s Day”. Nick”.
As a result of the victory over the Vikings and overlooking the Super Bowl, Peacock has now struck again: the huge scoreboard at the Interstate 95 now presents a new Foles picture with the inscription:”St. Nick always delivers”.
