Cycling: World cycling championship: Junior Märkl misses the medal very thinly

Last year’s runner-up Niklas Märkl missed another medal in the Junior World Championships road race. After 133.8 kilometres, the man from the Palatinate finished fourth in the championship fights in Bergen, Norway, in thankless fourth place. The sovereign world champion was the Dane Julius Johansen, who finished 51 seconds ahead of the competition as a soloist.

The 18-year-old Märkl decided the sprint of the field for himself, but failed to reach the previously runaway Italians Luca Rastelli and Michele Gazzoli, who finished second and third.

For the Bund Deutscher Radfahrer (BDR) the silver medal of Lennard Kämna (Wedel) in the U23 road race will remain before the final road races of the women and professionals.
