NFL: 49ers-Linebacker Reuben Foster accused of domestic violence

Reuben Foster of the San Francisco 49ers was questioned on Thursday for several domestic violence offences. This was stated by the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office in the wake of an arrest in February.

Foster has to answer for three domestic violence offences after attacks against his girlfriend. The victim is said to have suffered severe injuries.

Foster was also charged with owning an assault rifle and a major magazine. A conviction in all cases could result in a prison sentence of up to eleven years.

The hearing on Thursday is also said to have been attended by 49ers-newcomer Richard Sherman. Fosters is expected to make a plea at the next court hearing.

“The 49ers’ organization has taken note of the disturbing charges against Reuben Foster,” said Foster’s team in a statement. “We will continue to pursue this serious matter. Reuben knows that his future in our organization is being evaluated and depends on developments in the court case.”

In addition to the impending consequences under civil law, Foster is also threatened with punishment by the NFL. For offences of domestic violence, players are taken out of circulation for six season games.
