Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, middleweight champion of the WBA and WBC, has a balance of 50-1-2. Now the Mexican fights against the regular champion of the WBA in the super middleweight, Rocky Fielding (27-1).

Each weight class in boxing has four federations that host world championship matches: WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. A Super Champion is not only World Champion of a federation, but also holds several titles.

Alvarez is champion of the WBA and WBC. When a boxer has become Super Champion, his actual title is revoked. Then two boxers are selected to fight for the vacant title. The winner may then call himself Regular Champion.

Middleweight Super Champion Alvarez fights Fielding in Super Middleweight. This means for Canelo that instead of weighing 159.4 pounds (72.3 kilograms), as in the last fight against Ukrainian Golovkin, he must now weigh at least 168 pounds (76.2 kilograms).

Saul Alvarez had to admit defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on 14 September 2013. The fight went over full twelve laps, but Alvarez was clearly defeated.

Therefore, the boxing world was surprised about the ambiguous result. Only two of the three referees saw Mayweather in front. Referee C.J. Ross had judged the fight a draw, for which she had to accept heavy criticism. A few days later she resigned as a referee.
