Draisaitl candidate for MVP title

Leon Draisaitl is about to receive his next major award. The star of the Edmonton Oilers is one of three candidates for the MVP.

Germany’s ice hockey superstar Leon Draisaitl can hope for the NHL’s most prestigious individual award.

As the North American professional league announced on Tuesday, the 24-year-old striker from the Edmonton Oilers is one of the three finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the most valuable player of the regular season.

As with the Ted Lindsay Award, the NHLPA’s selection of the best professional of the regular season, the decision will be made between Cologne-born Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) and Artemi Panarin (New York Rangers). The winner will be announced during the Conference Finals.

With 110 points (43 goals, 67 assists) Draisaitl was the top scorer in the league before the Corona compulsory break and was the first German to receive the Art Ross Trophy as the best points scorer after the regular season was broken off.

The restart in the NHL is scheduled for August 1, and the league plans to resume in two venues. The twelve clubs of the Eastern Conference will meet in Toronto, while the twelve clubs of the Western Conference will play in Edmonton. The Stanley Cup winner will then be determined in the play-offs.
